The Man Minute "Sixty second investments to Christ-like manhood" Dad, I'm Talking To You by Jason Cruise I have many tendencies that are, let's just say, not so stellar. One of these character traits is that I will over-extend myself in commitments because I want to experience all of life, and yet do it before lunch. So, I tend to stay over-committed. I'm working on it, but it's not an easy thing. Cole was sitting in the back seat as we were pulling in to our neighborhood. I don't know what he was talking about, for I was thinking about some project in my short future. However, I clearly heard, "Dad, I'm talking to you." Which was followed up by, "You know, Dad, sometimes lately, I've been talking but you're not listening." Coming from a six year old, those words are like an arrow shot straight to the soul. I told him I was sorry, and that, yes, I'd been in my own little world lately. I promised to improve. The thing about this crazy pace at which we all now live is that it doesn't just rob us of time ... it robs those around us of our greatest contribution to their lives ... which is our presence. When I live from appointment to appointment, meeting to meeting, I am never fully present. I pretty much live in constant transit from one thing to the next, and those who feel it most are in the back seat. This is your new blog post. The Man Minute "Sixty second investments in Christ-like manhood? Can One Person Change The Future Of An Entire Country? By Jason Cruise Actually, based on biblical precedent, that question has already been answered. The real question comes down to something Jesus said that has forever intrigued me. He said to every one of His disciples listening then, and to those listening now, these words: I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it. (John 14:12-14) Jesus was not talking about any person being able to save the soul of another human being. It's fairly obvious that in preparing His crew for the coming of the Holy Spirit, He's talking about works that they will do here on earth. I cannot imagine doing anything greater than something Jesus did, so I'm not going to try! However, I know I must do something about an epidemic that God has placed on my heart, for He has made it my epidemic to confront. The Man Minute has always been a free subscription, and I hope it always stays that way. Because it's free, I do not feel so terribly bad in asking you to do me a favor! I promise not to do it that often. As I mentioned to you a few weeks back in a previous Man Minute, I am launching a new venture called MISSION that will bring the spotlight to this epidemic and place it center stage to the outdoor industry. Hunters all over this nation deserve the right to do something with their purchasing power that is beyond simply pursing an animal to harvest. So here's my favor to ask ... 1 - Tomorrow a formal press release goes out announcing MISSION. Please forward that press release to as many people, especially hunters, as you feel comfortable doing so. 2- Click this Facebook button below for MISSION and give us a "like." Do this and those of us a MISSION will be indebted to you for helping us share with the world a form of evil that must be stopped. So back to answering the original question ... can one person change an entire country? Yes, I believe you and I can do it together. Every great movement of God in history always started with one, single individual, or one, small group of people. Through efforts like MISSION, we can pool our energy and change the future of this forgotten country called Moldova. The Man Minute- Sixty second investments in Christ-like manhood. A Strange Union by Jason Cruise Every time I'm around a group of believers who've come together for a cause, whether it's a mission trip, a men's retreat, or an outdoor conference, I'm forever gripped by the strangeness of our radically different stories. Where each person comes from, how they got to this place in life, and how they ended up on this particular trip, would appear to the typical observer to be wildly random. You and I both know, however, that the idea of random does not even fit into the equation any longer. I see the glory of God in its most evident light when groups like this come together. You see men, normally in the war of marketplace competition, swinging a hammer side by side to fix someone's home. You see the upwardly mobile salesman sitting right next to a retired soldier in a hunting camp, both looking deep into the Scriptures to find deeper truths that solidify the identity of their manhood. The strange union around the campfire of brotherhood is not so strange at all when one stops to consider the Guide who led each man to his place in the circle. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. - Ephesians 4:16 This is your new blog post. The Man Minute- Sixty second investments in Christ-like manhood Getting What You Want by Jason Cruise God has a history of giving us exactly what we want. It started in the garden. Adam and Eve wanted freedom. God gave it to them. Even though they had Samuel, the people of Israel wanted "their own king" and God gave them Saul. The prodigal son wanted to go to town and do his own thing, and Daddy let him have just that. You can find story after story in the Scriptures which testify to God letting people have their own way. Often when I come to a cross-roads in my journey of faith, a quiet and sober truth soaks into my heart that while I may say I want to obey the Lord, the truth is ... I can do what I want. I can choose to do it my way, and nobody is going to stop me. The problem with actually following through on what I want to do is that I cannot see the view from 30,000 feet. I have limited perspective that is mixed thoroughly with limited understanding. A bad combination for success no doubt! Perhaps that is what Paul was getting at when he stated that he is a slave to righteousness. Paul was a freedman bound to serve the heart of God. Only when you and I find such freedom in such bondage will we be able to overcome ourselves. |
