Oh To Be Like Thee

Hi,

We have had our heroes throughout our younger days, and we tried to pick up on how they talked, the way they walked, the clothes their wore, etc.  But wasn't it rare if we ever got to know their heart, the inner-person?

When we remember that God wants us to conform to His son's image, it may be most important for us to start by discovering how Jesus describes Himself.  He doesn't say:  "I am wise and powerful," or "I am holy and eternal," or "I am all-knowing and absolute deity."  It seems that he spoke very directly only once, when he pulled back the veil, and let us see His heart of hearts.  So I believe we should pay close attention.

Matthew 11:28-29
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart;
and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

We are never more like Christ than when we fit into His description of Himself; which is meek and lowly.  This speaks of His gentleness, which is power under control.  Meek or humble, describes His being always ready and willing to serve others.

"O to be like Thee!  full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind;
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee, O to be like Thee,
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art!
Come in Thy sweetness, come in thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart."
                                                Thomas O. Chisholm

God bless you and your family today, and remember that you are loved!!!

Henry
