A Big Daddy

I drove down the road to the neighbors house this past fall in hopes of securing permission to bowhunt a little chunk of woods near our house.  I’d watched two nice bucks in velvet come and go from the bottle-neck of woods on several occasions and knew I needed to try and get the greenlight on this honey-hole.  As I often do, I took my little boy, Aidan.  He seems to help with getting the sympathy nod when trying to obtain permission to hunt from landowners. 

As Aidan and I jumped out of the truck to walk up the driveway, the neighbor’s big, loud-mouthed dog came running from the house, doing his best to ward off the “intruders.”  If you didn’t know better…and Aidan didn’t…you’d think the dog was gonna maul us, with his ferocious bark and aggressive behavior.  When he saw the dog approaching, Aidan grabbed my hand and pulled close to me.  He said, “That’s a big dog!”  But what got me is what he said next.  “…but you’re a big daddy!” 

I was a proud daddy on that day when my son made it clear that even in the midst of walking through the “valley of the shadow of death” he was not afraid…as long as he had his “big daddy.”

Aidan put his entire trust in me on that day.  It looked as if we were walking into a mess, but he trusted me when I told him, “I gotcha boy…just hold my hand. “

There’s no doubt in my mind that God is often saying to me, “I gotcha boy…just hold my hand.”  When I feel as if I’m walking into the midst of life’s mess…it is then that I need only to remember that despite the circumstances around me, God is still in control. 

I love the passage from Isaiah 41:10 that says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. “ 

Depsite what you’re going through in life right now…let God be God.  Hold on to His victorious right hand… and remember….He’s  a big daddy!
