A Strange Union

Every time I'm around a group of believers who've come together for a cause, whether it's a mission trip, a men's retreat, or an outdoor conference, I'm forever gripped by the strangeness of our radically different stories. Where each person comes from, how they got to this place in life, and how they ended up on this particular trip, would appear to the typical observer to be wildly random. You and I both know, however, that the idea of random does not even fit into the equation any longer.
 
I see the glory of God in its most evident light when groups like this come together. You see men, normally in the war of marketplace competition, swinging a hammer side by side to fix someone's home. You see the upwardly mobile salesman sitting right next to a retired soldier in a hunting camp, both looking deep into the Scriptures to find deeper truths that solidify the identity of their manhood. 
 
The strange union around the campfire of brotherhood is not so strange at all when one stops to consider the Guide who led each man to his place in the circle.
 
From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. - Ephesians 4:16
