Obsessed with Safety

The Man Minute sixty second investments in Christ-like manhood
I
have come to believe that Christians are obsessed with safety. Everywhere I go I hear Christians praying for safety. I understand it, so it's not that I'm being insensitive. I have a four year old son. I don't want anything to happen to him. I have a wife, I want her to find safety on the road. I understand the issue, but it seems as if Christians everywhere are striving to be safe in all their endeavors. God gives us wisdom and common sense so that we may not live life in reckless abandon. That's not the point. It seems that we've overcompensated to the point that we fear any level of uncertainty.

I don't know that I've ever heard a group of people at any church gathering , who are about to go on a mission trip, pray something like, "God, take us anywhere You see fit and let us encounter any situation You see fit in order to bring awareness to Your great name."

Any ship docked in a harbor is safe, but being tied up safely in a harbor is not the reason a ship was created.

I have been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. I have labored and gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked ... Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

- Apostle Paul, 2 Corinthians 11:24 - 12:11
